Dynamic shooters in the “bagel” shell are not exactly in vogue now, but certainly not deprived of the attention of the public and developers. Recently, Ziggurat 2 came out – an absolutely wonderful and very lively, difficult game. The only thing she lacks is, perhaps, a cooperative. But in Gunfire Reborn there are no problems with this. And in general, the action movie is remarkable – no joke, now it has 56 thousand reviews on Steam and very positive ratings. What is this miracle from China?
Heroes, money, scrolls, two barrels
And the fact that the game is Chinese is immediately clear – the first available hero, a funny cat in a hat, enters the Lunlin crypt to the music with Asian motifs to fight numerous enemies, upgrade, choose new weapons, proudly put a foot on the neck of the next boss and go farther. Yes, there is no special miracle in Gunfire Reborn – the gameplay basis is extremely simple and clear. We fight with a first-person view, develop, meet merchants, open new heroes, weapons and locations.
The disco is starting!
But the main thing in this scheme is the variety of weapons that pour like from a cornucopia and makes you remember the Borderlands: each gun has its own ordinary, rare or legendary properties, each differs from the others in power, rate of fire, magazine capacity, critical damage multiplier, applied elemental effects etc. Plus, many have alternative fire modes, like quickly spending the remaining rounds on one target or launching a charged sphere that you need to shoot yourself. Weapons are allowed to pump at the blacksmith. Therefore, here you can stand over the fallen cannons for a long time, compare them and decide what to take with you.
In addition, each hero can still strike enemies with unique skills. For example, the first cat throws smoke grenades and releases an energy ball that binds the target and deals damage. And the pink bunny Peach fires a variety of knives at the target, or summons exploding rosebuds that mark all enemies in a radius and deal powerful damage. There is also a bear, a swallow, a turtle and a miracle Yudo named Thunderbolt, who strikes reptiles with lightning.
Even watching Peaches play is interesting.
New heroes are opened mainly for fragments of souls, which we accumulate as we progress through locations or when we reach a new level of abilities. For example, to unlock a teddy bear, you need to get to the 25th, and Thunderbolt will open only on the 55th. Ability levels are pumped just for fragments of souls – after losing a run or if you decide to go out yourself. There are a lot of options for pumping – there are separate branches responsible for health and protection, for damage, for the strength of heroic skills, for helping in the adventure (more dropping gold, discounts from merchants, etc.), as well as for unlocking and pumping new types of weapons. Plus, we improve the passive skills of the hero, which everyone also has their own.
During the race, you can always see how the character develops.
There is time to think about what, how and where. But during the adventure itself, this is more difficult. There, after passing through each location, they also give you a choice of three improvements, and if you play in a team, then you need to quickly decide which heroic skill to improve. Plus, periodically from chests and defeated enemies (especially if they are elite) so-called occult scrolls fall out, which are also common, rare and legendary. They give various interesting effects – for example, they allow you not to use ammo for two seconds after killing an enemy, or when dashing, they activate lightning that fetters opponents.
Gotta take it!
Ideally, it is better to combine properties from scrolls, weapons and hero skills – for example, rely on one type of elemental damage, enhancing its effects from different sources. In addition, sometimes they offer to get / replace more rare and even legendary properties (“inscriptions”) for guns and scrolls, but for this you have to sacrifice something or agree to take a cursed scroll. And the latter are endowed with unpleasant features – for example, an increase in the price of a merchant, a decrease in magazine capacity, a chance that you will deal only a unit of damage, or that when you reload, the ammo consumption will double.
In general, despite the inevitable randomness when everything that can fall out here, there are enough options to influence the situation and the style of passing.
Straight Serious Sam with kittens!
Cats, peaches and bears against everyone
As you can see, the mechanics are clear and familiar. So what makes Gunfire Reborn so interesting, deserving of our “raisins”? Well, firstly, the already mentioned richness in the choice of weapons – from pistols to rocket launchers, swords and crossbows, not to mention exotic samples like figurines of a fire-breathing dragon or salamander. Secondly, the action itself. Yes, this is not as fast a shooter as the same Ziggurat 2, but still very dynamic and, moreover, convenient – we jump and make jerks.
